Our Ethos

A great Client relationship is at the heart of how we operate at Miller Compton Maritime, based on integrity, transparency, trust and a hands-on, collaborative approach.

Each project starts with generating a tailored brief where we will build up the details of your project, allowing all parties to identify the project’s milestones and progress.  We assist by connecting with the designers and builders, drawing on our vast expertise to ensure that everything runs smoothly from start to finish during all stages of the design, engineering, construction and delivery of the yacht.

Our aim is to give guidance and protect our Client’s interests to construct the best yacht within the constraints set by the Client whilst being mindful of the budget and managing the Clients expectations.

Our strong leadership and personal touch is what makes the difference – visit our ‘Projects’ page to see the vessels we’ve been entrusted to work with.

Our Background & Company Founder’s Bio

Originating from two maritime families, the ship owning Miller’s who ran coal bunkering operations out of the Cape Verde Islands from the early 19th century, and the Hornblower Compton Gill who were involved in the British Navy from the 18th century, it was only natural with this strong maritime history that Ben ‘George’ Gill decided to follow in the family footsteps.

At sixteen, he started his apprenticeship in marine engineering on the River Thames, receiving his indentures four years later in 1993. Newly qualified, he ended up in a shipyard in Turkey before moving to Greece where he spent a further four years.

In 1997, Ben transitioned into the world of superyachts and was lucky to have been mentored by the late Fred Dovaston who nurtured his talent and pushed him to excel in the industry. He took his first Chief Engineers role on the amazing schooner Adix under the legendary Paul Goss; the following 15 years saw a growth in experience and knowledge as he served on Lady M, Cyclos III, Talisman C, Maltese Falcon, Alfa Nero and Aglaia.

Travelling in excess of 280,000 NM miles during his career at sea and working alongside some of the most respected Captains and Owners in the industry, Ben finally stepped ashore to launch Miller Compton Maritime Ltd in 2017.

As the Founder and Director, his twenty-plus years of experience and knowledge means Clients are working with someone with a proven commercial and maritime background, who will be a staunch advocate for your build. Ben is an experienced Marine Engineer, who developed the REV Ocean concept and is overseeing her construction as Owners Representative and Project Director for Project REV, Rosellinis Four-10.
