The Process
With new builds and refits, there is pressure on Clients to source skilled professionals to guide them through the process. Constructing a yacht should be an experience as much as an integral part of ownership as being onboard the vessel.
Our aim is for Clients to feel that they are getting a bespoke product, tailored for their lifestyle and the way they choose to enjoy their valuable downtime, and to enjoy this creative journey (of what can be anything up to a 5-year process) as much as we do at Miller Compton Maritime.
We start with listening and then asking the right questions to define what the Client requires from their yacht. This may also involve interviewing other family members, previous charter crews or existing crew, to formulate a full picture.
From these discussions, a Design Concept Document is constructed – a short-form document that can be used as an initial presentation to shipyards and designers to find the perfect fit for the Client’s vision.
Alongside the Design Concept Document, we will also start preparing the technical specification, this can be built as a tendering document or in collaboration with a chosen shipyard. If the project is time-critical, then we would recommend that the technical specification is done as a collaboration with the shipyard and Owner’s Team.
Throughout the process of development, construction and ultimately ownership it’s vitally important to manage expectations. Just about anything can be done but is not always feasible, therefore transparency and expert advice about construction milestones and progress is important. The industry experience of your Owner’s Team comes to the forefront where costs and resources can be managed.
There are many ways to build a yacht and the above is only a guideline of how it may work. Miller Compton Maritime’s work is done on fixed rates and no commissions, unburdened by any conflict of interest with providers and therefore we are focused on an unbiased outlook of the marketplace.
Miller Compton Maritime can be involved at any stage for partial involvement or for the full experience and we welcome you to contact us to discuss your needs.
